December Newsletter 2017

December Newsletter 2017

December is always a busy, fun month at Sunsport.  The first Friday is the usual drum circle.

The second weekend is the Winter Wanderland Music Medley for Young Adults.  Brandon Steinbrecher of The Tribe has arranged for seven bands to play on Saturday and Sunday afternoons and evenings.  There will also be a number of interesting workshops.  On Friday evening there will be the second drum circle of the month with glow-in the-dark body painting under black lights.  Although people aged 18 – 30 will have special rates of $6 per day (free for first timers)  and free tent camping, people of all ages are welcome to participate in all Winter Wanderland events.

Of course December features a number of wonderful holiday events.  Lighting of beautiful luminaries followed by caroling will be on Friday the 22nd.  Christmas Eve brings the traditional Yankee Gift Swap and a visit by Santa at 7:30 pm with gifts for all Sunsport’s Children followed by caroling in the pavilion.  Please let the office know soon of children who will see Santa.  Contributions for Secret Santa presents are much appreciated and may be made in a jar in the office.

A Community Holiday Pot Luck Meal will take place on December 25th.  Please indicate what you plan to bring on the list on the office counter.

New Year’s Eve brings a gala dance with live music by Jonell Cross, hot and cold appetizers, and a sparkling cider toast at midnight.   This is the only Activities Committee event of the year with a fee.  Tickets may be purchased for $25 in the office.  There will also be a free Family New Year’s Eve Party in the Clubhouse Game Room with healthy snacks and games.

Exciting news:  Sunsport’s restaurant is now open for three meals a day seven days a week.   The enhanced hours have been much requested; continuation will depend upon patronage so please enjoy the delicious meals often.  There are now five chefs: Britney Blair, Joel Deatline, Elijah Meckstroth, Chris Vuk, and, newly joining the team, experienced chef Casey Lucas.   Personable and fun Angel Frasier has become part of the wait staff in addition to her work in the front office.  Sierra Jones is now team leader coordinating the restaurant service.  She welcomes suggestions.  The floor and ceiling in the restaurant kitchen have been replaced as has long been needed.  It will make service much easier.

A new sand beach is located between the hot tub spa and the fence behind it.  There are lots of interesting shells on the beach for you to arrange in artistic designs.  Please leave the shells on the beach for the pleasure of all.

The main dumpster is filling up too quickly resulting in a mess around it.  Please place discarded carpeting, furniture, appliances, or any other large item on the side of the roadway near your lot, not in the dumpster.  The maintenance team will pick up such large items.  Thanks.

In last month’s column the rate sheet which will be effective May 1, 2018, had some errors.  We are printing below a corrected rate sheet.

Many friends from the North have now arrived with more people arriving daily.   Regular dances and water aerobics have resumed.  It’s a wonderful happy time at Sunsport.
